Next Thursday, August 21, 2025, an outstanding project of the Dresden Jewish Community will begin in Dresden: The Eternal Scripture – A Torah for Dresden . For the first time in Europe, a complete Torah scroll will be publicly written in the traditional manner – visible to all, embedded in a comprehensive educational and cultural program.
The centerpiece of the project is a specially designed writing pavilion in front of the Dresden City Museum (Wilsdruffer Straße 2, 01067 Dresden). There, a Sofer Stam, a trained scribe of sacred texts, will create a new Sefer on traditional parchment.
The Torah will be written – strictly according to the traditional rules. The writing process will take place in a public space: a large glass shop window allows for a view at any time, and regular live broadcasts are planned. The scribe…
