Human chain on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of the destruction of Dresden to protect against Nazis and their followers
Time & Location
13 Feb 2024, 17:00 – 19:00
Dresden, New Town Hall, 01067 Dresden, Germany
About the event
On February 13, 1945, the state capital Dresden commemorates the millions who died during the National Socialist tyranny. February 13th reminds us of the devastating consequences of tyranny, contempt for humanity, anti-Semitism, intolerance and nationalism. But our history also reminds us that a democratic society is the best response to such threats. February 13th therefore reminds us to take responsibility. We call on everyone to defend our democratic values such as human dignity, justice, equality and tolerance together and with courage. Our democracy and human rights are a precious heritage that we must preserve and strengthen.
At a time when democracies all over the world are under pressure, when people are suffering from the consequences of war and terror, when hatred, incitement and violence, when racism and anti-Semitism are once again making their way, we must be vigilant together; Actively protect these values and resolutely counter these tendencies together.
By forming a human chain and vigilantly united, we are sending a strong signal for admonishing remembrance, the protection of our democracy and the courage necessary for this. We also call on everyone to be vigilant together in the context of February 13th and the human chain in various forms.
We stand together against crimes against humanity and the undermining of our free, democratic legal system and we protect a society in which the human rights and dignity of every single person are respected.
