Working together for a vibrant Jewish life

Why your support matters to us right now

A home is more than just a roof over your head. It is a place where people meet, feel safe and celebrate traditions. For many of us in Dresden, the Jewish Community is exactly that: a centre for culture, community and religious life. But this home is currently facing a real financial challenge – and that's where you come in.

The reality behind the scenes

Perhaps you didn't know: our community does not receive any basic funding from the state or institutions. We are not financed by church taxes or fixed public funds. Everything we do – whether concerts, counselling or our holidays – has to be laboriously financed through donations, membership fees and individual project funding.

The problem with this? Everyday life. While support is often available for special art projects, the "daily bread" falls by the wayside. Rent, heating, electricity, cleaning, our office and the indispensable security measures can hardly ever be covered by project applications.

A huge feat of voluntary work

Normally, we would have to budget around €7,000 to €9,000 per month to run a community of our size. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our active members and extremely strict cost-cutting measures, we have managed to reduce this amount to well under €3,000 per month in recent years. That's a real feat!

Despite this thriftiness, we are currently in a tight spot. We have what is known as a liquidity bottleneck: the money is there in principle, or has been promised, but it is not available to us right now. At the same time, we have to pay large bills that cannot be postponed any longer.

Our goal: €10,000 for the future

That is why we are reaching out to you directly today – as a friend, supporter, member or simply as someone interested in our city. We need a total of 10,000 euros to get through this difficult period.

  • What your donation achieves: This amount enables us to continue our ongoing operations and ensure that our doors remain open to everyone. We want to continue to be a vibrant part of Dresden and advance our projects for the urban community.

  • Take a look around – and join us! Feel free to click through our website. Here you can see the diverse projects we have already completed and what we are planning next.

Every pound helps us keep our heads above water and continue to be there for and with you. Thank you for taking the time to support us!
